Epic City Builder 4 – Review

Since I enjoy city-building games, I decided to give this one a try and was pleasantly surprised by how much I was looking forward to it when it arrived. Particularly notable to me were the Research Trees for both Industry (Jobs) and the Military, as well as the ability to connect previously unconnected cities through trade. I appreciate being able to tell at a glance which areas are homes, shops, and factories.

It’s nice to see people driving to and from work in their cars. The music plays in a pleasant loop, but the developer has stated his intention to add more music to the game, which is exciting. The interface is intuitive, and it even provides helpful context clues when you move your mouse over an item, making it easier to make informed decisions.

What’s more, I appreciate that you can drag the map around with the right mouse button. It’s awesome that factories can crank out a wide variety of lethal implements. On the whole, I’m having a good time with it. At the moment, I’m giving this game a 77 out of 100. As time goes on and I make more edits, my star rating will rise.

I can tell that after a year has passed that many of the problems have been fixed and that the system is much more responsive and user-friendly overall. The expansion of cities, visually speaking, is more lenient. The new flexibility to choose between single-map, sandbox, and scenario modes is a big plus. After 30 minutes of gameplay, the music became increasingly distracting. When I play, I don’t listen to the music because it needs to improve and there isn’t enough of it right now. My current rating is 77 out of 100.
