Hunt Showdown – Review
Crytek, the developer behind the Crysis series, is currently working on a new game called Hunt: Showdown. Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age was originally intended to be a spiritual successor to Darksiders. There is a bounty system and RPG style character progression in Hunt: Showdown, a first person shooter with PvP and PvE elements. Even though The Order: 1886 was compared to Showdown, the survival horror shooter stands on its own.
On this particular day, in 1895, it is. With the spread of disease and the appearance of vicious monsters from the deepest recesses of the Earth, Louisiana has become a plague-ridden wasteland. Bounty hunters from all over the country are needed to help combat the American Hunters Association, an organisation dedicated to combating the supernatural. One of the many hunters who have heeded the call is who you take on the role of in the game. The ability to see the rippling energy between worlds, which aids hunters in tracking down their prey, is available to every hunter. This ability can either be learned or passed down through family members. It is entirely up to you whether or not you live to see another day.
Hunt: Showdown alters the typical first-person shooter control scheme. If you don’t have your sights set, pressing the fire button will initiate a melee attack. Aiming involves bringing the gun into view and then actively aiming down the sights, as well as two apparent stages. Shooting without aiming down the sights is easier for more experienced players, allowing them to move more freely while firing. Extensive FPS players may find this change cumbersome, restricting their movement options. All hunters are spawned at random locations across a large map at the start of a game. Hunters can narrow down the location of the bounty target by using the ability Dark Sight. Both solo and two-man teams have their advantages and disadvantages. Aside from you, there are going to be other bounty hunters on every mission. While killing the boss monster and collecting its bounty is the primary goal of each mission, other hunters can kill you and take your bounty if you aren’t careful. With both hostile hunters and a variety of monsters to contend with, it becomes a challenge to overcome.
Crytek, the developer of Hunt: Showdown, is known for its high-quality graphics. The surroundings and textures are incredibly realistic in their level of detail. Even though this may be difficult to run on a less current system, the visual development of the game was not compromised. When it comes to gameplay mechanics, the game places a heavy emphasis on sound and its mechanics. Hunt: Showdown has a surround sound system that allows players to feel like they’re in the middle of a real-world situation.
Hunt: Showdown combines many well-known elements into a new kind of PvPvE adventure. Players may be tempted to kill one another in order to get their hands on the bounty money, as is common in PvP games. Additionally, teamwork is essential to surviving against hostile hunters and various creatures lurking in the remains of Louisiana. The pseudo-horror shooter is still growing, but despite its obvious flaws, I’m excited to see what it becomes.
