Deathloop – Starting Tips & Tactics
Deathloop is finally here, and while we are working on the review, here are some tips and tactics that should come in handy as you set out to take down the Visionaries and escape the loop. Oh, and watch out for Julianna.
For the uninitiated, Deathloop is Arkane’s latest game and puts you in the shoes of Colt Vahn. You wake up on the beach in a place called Blackreef. And you’re stuck in a loop. Your objective – kill these targets known as “The Visionaries”. Unlike some of the recent games with a time loop mechanic to them, Deathloop doesn’t put you on a timer. You are free to explore each are, and time only passes as you move from are to the next. Dying resets everything, and you set out again.
As with Arkane’s games, exploration is key to uncovering more knowledge about the area, it’s inhabitants, and your targets. So feel free to take your time and takin in the sights.
Don’t get too carefree though because sometimes there’s Julianna. She can be AI or player controller (Deathloop has a Dark Souls-esque invasion mechanic), and is out to hunt and kill you. She also prevents you from leaving the region you are currently in using a jammer.
the main currency in Deathloop is Residuum. You earn it by taking down enemies, and can use it to buy weapons an upgrades. upgrades will be needed to take down tougher foes, so make sure to spend that Residuum.
Speaking of Residuum, here’s our first tip:
Tip #1 – Residuum Collection
Unlock the ability to absorb Residuum from shining objects in the world. this will help you get some extra Residuum, and you’ll be needing these a lot.
Tip #2 – Blink & Miss
Dishonored fans will remember the Blink ability, and Deathloop has a version of it called “Shift Slab”. This helps you teleport short distances and is a must have.
Tip #3 Colt Die Twice
Get the “Reprise Ability”. This will help you comeback twice after dying. But if you die more than two times, then you run the risk of losing all your collected Residuum upon dying a third time. Maybe it’s time to make an exit.
Tip #4 Take A Tour
Just like Dishonored, exploration is key in Deathloop. so make sure to go looking around for extra secrets, and you’ll more often than not be rewarded in meaningful ways.
Deathloop releases for PC and PS5 on 14 September, and we’ll have a full review coming soon.
