Sweet Transit – Review
A new game from one of developers of Factorio, Sweet Transit, has finally arrived at the Steam Early Access station today, ready to take us all on a cross-country journey of industry and creation.
Ernestas Norvaias, the game’s lone developer, worked as a 3D artist on the indie management smash Factorio, and the resemblances between the two games are there for the taking. The backdrop of Sweet Transit, on the other hand, is the Golden Age of Rail, and rather of building conveyor belts and machinery, players are tasked with establishing a rail network and expanding their manufacturing industry.
When first starting out with Sweet Transit, you may encounter some behaviour that seems unusual. You’ll be able to learn how to set up a community, construct your first few production facilities, and—most importantly—where to put rail signals so your trains don’t crash into each other thanks to the existing set of tutorials.
Each and every one of your resources needs to have people working on it, and those people need a way to travel from their homes to their workplaces. You’ll need some trains to move people around, and you’ll need yet more trains to move raw materials to storage or manufacturing facilities.
Intense satisfaction awaits those who take the time to learn the ins and outs of railway navigation and the signals that guide them. Like fussing over the day’s Wordle with a cup of tea, fixing your rail network’s kinks is satisfying labour.
While playing Sweet Transit, you’ll go from having one warehouse and using coal-powered trains to having an extensive industrial network and using diesel locomotives. According to Norvaias, the next Early Access release will bring steel as a product and resource, and players can expect complete mod support.
