OlliOlli World: VOID Riders – Review
In OlliOlli World: VOID Riders, I was glued to my seat from start to finish. When I first started the DLC, I knew I was going to spend a lot of time skating around the beautifully designed environments. It was always fascinating to learn more about the diverse cast of new characters. The real question is whether or not OlliOlli World: VOID Riders is a worthwhile add-on to the main game.
In total, the DLC includes 18 new levels, including the final boss level and three “zone boss levels,” which is a fantastic amount of content for gamers to enjoy. This also ignores the fact that each level has its own set of difficulties, which will keep players coming back for more.
Variety and positive key points from the base game are what set apart good DLC from excellent DLC whenever it is released. In order to keep players interested in the new content, there needs to be a strong incentive for them to keep coming back. VOID Riders’ new level mechanics make this possible throughout the game. With new “Tractor Beams” propelling you through the air, it is always fun to grab your board and figure out when the best time is for a perfect landing.
Ultimately, the variety of bosses in this DLC is what keeps it fresh and exciting. They give players a fun way to practise and perfect the skills they already know how to use. Tractor beams and collecting cow piatas are just two of the zone boss challenges. Definitely a thrill!
As I progressed through the new levels, I was struck by how well Olli Olli World maintains its high standard of user experience design. Complex and well-designed levels allow for both failure and success to be achieved. The moment I made it through a particularly difficult level, I felt an instinctive “Yes!!” in my head. As a player who prefers to avoid using checkpoints as often as possible, this added an extra layer of challenge that I thoroughly enjoyed. As was the case with the VOID levels, which had a wonderful atmosphere that I wanted to return to time and time again.
Each of the DLC’s three main zones is home to a different set of levels. Burntrock, Cloverbrook, and Sunshine Valley are the locations in question. There are enough differences between each set of levels that it doesn’t feel like a simple repetition of material. An exciting journey of discovery awaits you at every turn.
Sair’Rah and Khehvyn in the image above have some of the best lines of dialogue you’ll ever hear. Their outfits are as memorable as their dialogue, which is why they’re so popular. You’ll run into these characters repeatedly throughout the game, both at the beginning and the end of each level. A great opportunity to learn more about the VOID’s lore and what these wonderful people do.
Nebulord and other characters from the original game will make appearances in the DLC, as well as new ones. If you’ve been away from the experience for some time, you can expect a trip down memory lane.
In addition to the game’s core mechanics, the DLC adds new character cosmetics, giving you the opportunity to make your character look completely out of this world while playing the new content. There’s one item in particular that I know my character will wear for a long time. Each item had me wanting to keep earning more.
Once you’ve defeated the DLC’s final boss, you’ll have access to an extremely rare customisation option.
You’ll never run out of things to do in VOID Riders after you’ve completed the main storyline and all of the DLC. You’ll face a slew of challenges that will require you to spend a lot of time completing each level. Throughout the course of playing through these excellent pieces of content, this content keeps reaching the upper echelons of effective DLC design.
There is so much to love about this game, and it is filled with so much originality and fun, that it’s hard not to recommend it to fans of the series. Because of how the levels are designed and the various side-tasks associated with them, each level has an enormous replayability value. It goes without saying that this will keep players coming back for a long time to come to this DLC section. If you’ve already completed OlliOlli World or are a long-time fan, the VOID Riders DLC is a must-have if you want to continue your skating journey into the VOID’s deepest reaches. It’s time to dust off those boards once more!
