Hello Neighbor 2 Beta – Preview

The old adage goes something like this: “the grass is always greener on the other side”. What happens if the neighbour is a crazed psychopath who is wanted by the police in your town? People are reminded of how much better it is to avoid lawns and dishonest people in Hello Neighbor 2. Even with the first Hello Neighbor, we had already realised this because of the game’s popularity and the subsequent publication of paper spin-offs, which helped build a small fan base (novels, above all).

Dynamic Pixels and Eerie Guest Studios, with the help of perhaps the best-known publisher TinyBuild, were inspired to make a sequel after the first episode’s overwhelming success. Hello Neighbor 2 appears to be reaffirming the most successful aspects of 2017 in an operation that is, however, more ambitious in terms of content than its predecessors. Is he going to be successful? Is it possible that “too much is good” will be reinstated?

The Hello Neighbor 2 beta, which was recently given to us by the developers, is now available to you.

Hello Neighbor 2’s first cute residents are here to welcome you to the city. A new reporter arrives in Raven Brooks to investigate a string of disappearances, and we take on the role of Quentin, who is tasked with solving the case. The billboards plastered with the faces of the town’s children seem to prove it: they’re everywhere. When Quentin arrives, the few human beings he encounters treat him suspiciously, bordering on malice. Nicky Roth and The Neighbor – Theodore Masters Peterson’s dear old neighbour – are also missing from the list of missing persons. Hello Neighbor’s first protagonist, as you may recall, was the name of this character:

In the beta we were able to play through, we were able to explore only some of Raven Brooks’ environments, such as the Neighbor’s house, which is now uninhabited, and a Victorian villa owned by an unknown character. There seems to be a connection between everyone in this story, and the narration is obviously cryptic, and it will be recomposed piece by piece within the limits of the possible until the boys, Roth, and the same Vicino are discovered.

A run-down building on the hillside next to town is likely to serve as Quentin’s main hub, but this will need to be confirmed in the future.

The crow-man, which appears whenever a player attempts to enter an area that can’t be explored at the moment, is undoubtedly one of the beta’s more obnoxious features. The crow-obsessive man’s and habitual presence thus becomes a distressing character with more “horror” hues. With the game’s final release, the entire city’s macro-area should be immediately accessible. Consequently, this issue should be resolved.

Some of Hello Neighbor 2’s newcomers appear to be quite intriguing. Hello Neighbor 2’s gameplay focuses on the same mechanics as the original Hello Neighbor, but it expands the scope and content of the invitation. From the start of the beta, it’s clear that you’ll be immersed in Raven Brooks, with only a brief tutorial to help you get used to the controls. When it comes to starting your investigations, you have the option of starting in any house you choose. However, this is currently limited, and it is expected that this will be expanded upon in a future version of the game. As a result, we will face a specific enemy in each of our own homes. An unfriendly police officer is guarding the neighbor’s abandoned mansion, for example, in real time.

Even though each house holds a useful secret, it isn’t certain that all the items found in one location must be used in the same way that they were found. To distract the guard dog, for example, a donut found in Theodore’s former home can be taken away and used as a distraction. A simple example, but one that illustrates how the progression is less intuitive than in the past, increasing the overall feeling of liberation and choice

Hello Neighbor 2’s “horror character” should be that. To put it another way: Having the freedom to do what you want, but remember that it can also lead to frustration. To make matters worse, it isn’t always clear what steps need to be taken in order to move the plot forward; rooms in a particular location simply lack the necessary items. In some areas, it is not clear how to get in, and no help from the developers is available.

Technical aspects must be reworked, since we were able to literally “break” a level by walking suspended halfway between ceiling and ground floor rooms. We were able to see practically everything that took place inside the house without the policeman noticing. Not good, especially for a title that aims to present a more intuitive artificial intelligence than the first Hello Neighbor, able to learn about the protagonist’s usual habits.

In regards to Hello Neighbor 2, we have some reservations. With this type of product it doesn’t really matter how big the game world is, as long as it has more freedom and more creative options for the developer. If there are objects that can be used in very distant places, it’s not clear where they are, how to use them or what they are. This is a problem in the beta environment. To add insult to injury, we also point out two obvious flaws: There’s no Neighbor and the Raven Man is more annoying than frightening; and even though there are enough months to fix it, the horror element seems to have been toned down. But who knows? Hello Neighbor 2 could be a hidden gem after all. Or not, reaffirming its status as an intriguing work of fiction with intriguing concepts but a lack of execution.

Neither the contents nor their location should be missing. Still, the story’s context is enticing. Fans will be overjoyed when it arrives by the end of the year.
