Developed by Vaulted Sky Games and published by Coffee Stain Publishing, Midnight Ghost Hunt is a new four-player hide-and-seek game. Midnight Ghost Hunt is a cross between Ghostbusters and an old G-Mod fan favourite, Prop Hunt. The clock is ticking down to midnight, and players are pushed into short, tense matches. Is this game, on the other hand, the next one to keep players up past their bedtime? What do you think?

To play as a ghost or a hunter, players form four-person teams. The hunters have just 5 minutes to find the ghosts before midnight, which sounds like an easy task. This isn’t quite the case. In order to remove them, they must first eliminate the spirits they’ve possessed and then vacuum them up.

To achieve this goal, hunters use a wide variety of weapons, gadgets, and perks. Each weapon has its own advantages and disadvantages, from the slow yet scopeable Reaper to the good all-rounder ghostly cannon, which players start with. Harpoons can also be used to temporarily capture a ghost, although the tether eventually breaks. In order to catch the ghosts, hunters may need a variety of tools. Ghost hunters can use a variety of tools, from radar scanners to spectrophotometers, to find the location of spirits.

The team will need to work together to avoid wasting time walking back and forth to the generator to re-equip because each hunter can only hold one gadget at a time. If you’re a hunter, you’ll need to be armed with a variety of search tools, but it’s also important to have teammates on hand with vacuums or defibrillators in case one of your fellow hunters dies while looking. It is also possible for a hunter to customise the gameplay to his or her own preferences by using a single perk, such as a zonal healing boost or the ability to carry two primary weapons instead of one (overkill is underrated after all). Perks like these don’t make a tremendous difference in the outcome of the game, but they might nevertheless tip the balance your way.

It’s not over at midnight, then why is there such a rush by the hunters? Ghosts gain strength as the clock strikes twelve-thirty. At this point, the hunter becomes the hunted and has only five minutes to get away. It’s all about hiding for the first five minutes for the ghosts, but if an opportunity arises, they’ll go on the attack. The map is littered with artefacts that can be possessed by ghosts. Everything from a basketball in a school gym to gargoyles in a crumbling church are capable of movement, which is a need because being still for long periods of time causes ectoplasm to build up, revealing your location to predators. The amount of ectoplasm in your body decreases as you move or alter your possessions.

However, despite the fact that ghosts lack firearms, they do possess various means of defence, including special powers, perks, and even haunting from beyond the grave. These skills are a lot of fun, from disguises like a hunter to full-blown poltergeists and floating traps. Ghosts, like hunters, have a wide variety of tools at their disposal. They can poltergeist an object and corrupt it at the same time. As soon as a ghost is slain, it isn’t completely extinguished. It is possible for ghosts to haunt from the afterlife, causing radars to go off and chilling nearby hunters, which slows them down.

It doesn’t matter if the clock strikes midnight or not; all that matters is winning. Games can be over in a matter of minutes or grow nail-bitingly close to the conclusion depending on the timing of when the ghosts become stronger. There’s only a ten-minute break between games of Midnight Ghost Hunt. Then you’re right back into the action, sometimes with your roles swapped.

They don’t have a large number of tools at their disposal when they start the game. As players collect ghost shards, which may be used to unlock objects in whatever order they choose, these are gradually unlocked. For example, each weapon costs the same 500 shards to acquire, and beyond a little balancing, there are no right or wrong alternatives — only some are better than others in a certain circumstance. In the meanwhile, players can earn shards by playing and levelling up, which will give them access to a plethora of different loadouts.

When you’re put in a squad, it’s a lot of fun to jump online and play with others. As a full team of four, playing Midnight Ghost Hunt with pals takes it to a whole new level. For both hunters and the ghost teams, the ability to sync weapons and gadgets makes for a more efficient hunting experience, regardless of whether or not the ghosts are slain. Even if only two members of a team are intoxicated, this is still possible..

From the scary theatre to the “should be safe” museum, spectacular locations create the tone for the game. From armoured outfits with a unique sword attack to miniature dinosaur replicas, each has its own distinctive features. Even the most bizarre objects on these maps take on a sinister quality when they charge toward you. Most people never imagine having to flee from an enraged paint pot or a demon-possessed rubber duck.

It’s not possible to win every game of Midnight Ghost Hunt. The developers have already produced a patch that fixes a number of bugs, but there are still some that need to be addressed. In-game action moves at a breakneck pace, making lag spikes a nuisance. Fortunately, this hasn’t happened as often as it used to. A host migration system would be a nice feature to implement. When hosts terminate a game, the patch fixes the issue of losing XP, but instead of moving the host and allowing the next match to continue, it brings players back to their main menu.

The thrill of a prop search is elevated to a whole new level with Midnight Ghost Hunt, which incorporates the eerie Ghostbusters theme. For those who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty and go for the baddies with flamethrowers and radar spikes, there’s plenty of fun to be had. No matter which team you’re on, the games are fast-paced and entertaining, which is remarkable considering that these types of games frequently give the impression that one side is merely present to aid the enjoyment of the other. Everyone should believe in ghosts, despite a few flaws and hosting concerns, thanks to this.
