Death Stranding Director’s Cut – Review

When we first played Death Stranding when it initially launched on the PS4, it was a refreshing experience unlike anything we had played before. Especially for a Kojima game. Years later, with the pandemic now a reality, and all of us still locked in our houses, Death Stranding just hits different. Diving back into the game for the Director’s Cut has been like an entirely new experience. Partly because of the current circumstances, partly due to the new additions in the game.

Pros:
Lots of new content
Quality of life features
Visual improvements
New story missions

Cons:
Not for everyone

Score: 9/10

So, for the uninitiated, here’s the basic plot – a global catastrophe has severed most transportation methods, and people are now locked inside safe shelters. Porter, like Sam Fisher, are now tasked with delivery work, while navigating treacherous terrain and taking on dangers head on. You have massive set of tools at your disposal that’ll help in both combat and navigation.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut is packed with a ton of new content and enhanced gameplay features. They are introducing more weapons, equipment and vehicles, a variety of new modes, missions and areas to explore, expanded storylines, and enhancements to the UI. They have also added new online features including Friend Play and Leaderboards.

Here are some key features:

  • Remastered for the PlayStation 5 Console – Take on the trials of Sam Bridges with advanced combat, more character actions and a competitive ranking system for special player challenges in this definitive Death Stranding experience.
  • Expanded Content – Experience an extended storyline through new missions in an expanded area. Make use of additional weapons and vehicles, take on new enemy types and explore new locations such as the Firing Range and Racetrack, featuring extra missions and minigames.
  • Unique Social Strand System – Stay connected with other players from around the globe. Donate valuable resources to rebuild structures in your world and others’, and offer likes in support of player structures that appear in yours to reward them for their contributions.

PlayStation 5 Features

  • Haptic Feedback – Experience environment effects with the DualSense wireless controller’s haptic feedback. Adaptive triggers: Get closer to the world of Death Stranding with bespoke adaptive trigger resistance.
  • Tempest 3D AudioTech on Compatible Headphones – Hear sound effects come to life in 3D Audio (requires compatible headphones).
  • Fast Loading – Get into the action quickly with the PlayStation 5 console’s ultra-fast SSD and near-instant load times.
  • Stunning Visuals – Choose from two picture modes—Performance Mode with upscaled 4K and up to 60 frames per second or Fidelity Mode in native 4K—both with ultra-wide and HDR support.

Overall, Death Stranding Director’s Cut is well worth your time and money, and I’d highly recommend it to both new and returning players.
