Simply put, Dread Templar is low rez Doom 2016. Which means that it’s awesome. I have been loving the resurgence of boomer shooters in the past few years, and Dread Templar is among the best. Fast paced gunplay, enemy variety, and gore is central to the experience, and Dread Templar delivers in spades. The game takes obvious inspirations from it’s predecessors, while adding some neat ideas of it’s own.

There’s a proper characters and weapon upgrade system, along with a lot of environmental puzzles and secrets to uncover. The weapons are brutal, especially the throwable katana, which is an absolute delight to use. Enemies can be aggressive, rushing you in hordes at times, and this is where the slow ability comes in handy. Overall, and absolute banger.

Pros:
Great level design
Fun gameplay
Lots of challenge

Cons:

Score – 9/10
