Eldest Souls – Spotlight
If there’s Souls in the title, it’s probably a Souls-like, right? Well, you’re right, but Eldest Souls is so tightly focused on it’s boss fights, that it feels like a refined and distilled version of the Souls-like experience. An that’s awesome! The premise is simple, and obscure like any Dark Souls game – the Gods are tyrannical, Man rebels, Gods unleash their wrath, Man strikes back.
The gameplay is sublime, and like any good Souls-like, it rewards patience. Being a boss rush game, Eldest Souls doesn’t allow much learning along the way. There are no minions to fight, no random encounters to hone your skill with. All the learning happens on the job – and the job is tough. The bosses are challenging and will require a fair amount of observation, trial, and error. But there’s nothing as rewarding as beating a tough boss.
